As a Sports Photographer in Manchester, Wigan I was asked to cover the Wigan Warriors v Warrington Wolves game at the DW Stadium In Wigan.

Jake Mamo ran in a sensational hat-trick as Warrington beat Wigan 40-14 to keep pace at the top of Super League.

The Wire stormed ahead when Connor Wrench touched down from Daryl Clark’s grubber kick before Mamo ran in from 70 metres following an interception.

Matt Davis extended their lead before Sam Powell cut the deficit, but Mamo intercepted again after the break.

Willie Isa and Oliver Gildart got Wigan back in it but Jack Hughes, Ben Currie and Mamo’s third wrapped up the win.

The victory is Warrington’s ninth of the season and means they stay in third position on points percentage, while Wigan’s fourth defeat of the season sees them slip to fifth.

Mamo’s first try was the highlight of a dominant opening period for the visitors and also exemplified Wigan’s sluggish start.

The Australian was in the right place at the right time when Wigan were on the break as he intercepted Gildart’s blind throw behind to run in unopposed from inside his own half.

He repeated the feat after half-time, this time intercepting Harry Smith’s attempted offload before running in under the sticks from a similar distance.

Wigan looked like setting up a comeback when Isa and Gildart crossed in the second half, although Smith missed the extras on both occasions.

But Mamo stole the show as he ran in his hat-trick, and Warrington’s seventh try, to inflict an embarrassing defeat on a woeful Wigan side.
